FAQ

What is the difference between counselling and coaching?

Counselling focuses on emotional wellbeing, stress, anxiety, burnout, life transitions, and processing personal challenges. It provides a safe, confidential space to explore patterns, emotions, and experiences that may be impacting your current life.

Coaching is future-focused and growth-oriented. It is structured around building confidence, emotional intelligence, leadership capability, and aligned behaviour.

While distinct, both approaches integrate neuroscience-informed strategies and practical tools to support sustainable change.

If you are unsure which is right for you, we can discuss this during an initial consultation.

How do I know which programme is right for me?

Aligned Leadership Coaching is ideal if you:

  • Manage people or projects

  • Are stepping into greater responsibility

  • Want to strengthen leadership confidence and emotional intelligence

  • Need support with decision-making and communication

Aligned Confidence Programme is ideal if you:

  • Struggle with self-doubt or overthinking

  • Want to improve assertiveness and boundaries

  • Experience imposter feelings

  • Want to build stronger internal confidence and resilience

If needed, we can tailor the work to meet your specific goals.

What do you mean by “aligned”?

Alignment refers to the connection between your values, beliefs, emotions, and behaviour.

Many capable professionals operate from pressure, fear of judgment, or outdated self-limiting beliefs. Alignment means making decisions and taking action that reflect your core values rather than reactive patterns.

When alignment strengthens, confidence and clarity naturally increase.

How do values and self-limiting beliefs fit into coaching?

Exploring your values helps clarify who you are and how you want to lead or live.

Identifying self-limiting beliefs helps uncover internal narratives that may be driving stress, avoidance, or self-doubt.

We work to:

  • Identify unconscious belief patterns

  • Understand how they developed

  • Recognise how they show up under pressure

  • Shift them using neuroscience-informed strategies

This creates change at both mindset and behavioural levels.

Is this therapy?

If you enrol in counselling, yes - that is therapeutic support focused on emotional wellbeing.

If you enrol in a coaching programme, it is not therapy. It is structured professional development focused on growth, leadership, confidence, and emotional intelligence.

However, my 30+ years of mental health experience ensures coaching is psychologically informed and ethically grounded.

How long do programmes typically last?

Coaching Programmes are typically delivered over 6 sessions, depending on your goals.

Some clients choose to continue beyond this for deeper development or ongoing leadership support.

We will discuss structure and timelines during your consultation.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to my work.

Whether in counselling or coaching, sessions are private and conducted in a safe, professional environment.

What makes your approach different?

  • Over 30 years of experience in mental health and wellbeing

  • Integration of counselling expertise with neuroscience-informed coaching

  • A focus on values, alignment, and belief patterns - not just performance

  • Emotional intelligence and nervous system regulation woven into every programme

  • Practical tools you can apply immediately

This is not surface-level motivation.
It is structured, sustainable development.

Do I need to be in crisis to work with you?

No.

Many clients are functioning well externally but want to grow internally. You do not need to wait for burnout or breakdown to invest in your development.

How do I get started?

The first step is to schedule a confidential consultation.

In that conversation we will:

  • Clarify your goals

  • Identify current challenges

  • Discuss which service best fits your needs

  • Outline next steps

Growth begins with one intentional decision.

Still Unsure? Common Concerns Answered

“I’m not sure I’m struggling enough to need this.”

You do not need to be in crisis to seek support.

Many of my clients are functioning well on the outside - performing, leading, managing responsibilities - but internally feeling pressure, self-doubt, or misalignment.

Growth is not only for breakdown moments.
It is for those who want to strengthen confidence, emotional intelligence, and resilience before stress escalates.

If something in you is saying, “I want to feel stronger, clearer, or more aligned,” that is reason enough.

“I should be able to handle this myself.”

Capable people often hold this belief.

Seeking support is not a sign of inadequacy - it is a sign of self-awareness and responsibility.

High-performing professionals invest in developing their skills, mindset, and emotional regulation because leadership and confidence are not static traits. They are capacities that can be strengthened.

Working together does not mean you cannot cope.
It means you are choosing to grow intentionally.

“What if I feel uncomfortable opening up?”

That is completely normal.

Vulnerability can feel unfamiliar, especially for professionals who are used to being competent and composed.

My approach is calm, structured, and paced appropriately. We move at a level that feels safe while still gently stretching growth edges.

You are never pressured to share more than you are ready for.
Trust develops gradually and respectfully.

“I’m worried this won’t actually change anything.”

Sustainable change requires more than insight.

My work integrates:

  • Values clarification

  • Identification of self-limiting beliefs

  • Emotional intelligence development

  • Nervous system regulation strategies

  • Practical behavioural tools

This combination supports change at cognitive, emotional, and behavioural levels - not just surface motivation.

Clients often notice improvements in confidence, communication, and emotional steadiness within the first few sessions, with deeper integration over time.

“I don’t have time.”

Time is one of the most common concerns.

However, many clients find that:

  • Improved clarity reduces overthinking

  • Stronger emotional regulation saves mental energy

  • Better boundaries prevent burnout

  • Increased confidence shortens decision-making time

Investing structured time in your growth often creates more time - and more mental space in your daily life.

Sessions are scheduled to fit around professional commitments wherever possible.

“I’m concerned about the cost.”

Investing in your psychological wellbeing, leadership development, and confidence is not a short-term expense - it is a long-term investment.

Stronger emotional intelligence and resilience impact:

  • Career progression

  • Workplace relationships

  • Stress levels

  • Decision-making quality

  • Overall wellbeing

We can discuss programme structure and options during your consultation to ensure clarity and transparency.

“What if I’m not ready?”

You do not need to have everything figured out before starting.

Readiness is not certainty - it is willingness.

If you are open to reflection, honest exploration of patterns, and practical action between sessions, you are ready enough.

“Will this feel like therapy?”

Coaching sessions are structured, forward-focused, and growth-oriented.

While my background in counselling ensures psychological depth and safety, the programmes are designed to be practical and developmental rather than open-ended therapy.

You will leave sessions with insight and clear direction.

“I’ve tried coaching before and it didn’t stick.”

Not all coaching addresses underlying beliefs and emotional regulation.

If previous work focused primarily on goals and accountability without exploring values, identity, or self-limiting patterns, change may not have been fully integrated.

Our work goes deeper — while remaining structured and practical.

The Real Question

Often the hesitation beneath all others is:

“What might change if I actually commit to this?”

Growth requires courage - but it does not require crisis.

If you are ready to build aligned confidence, emotional intelligence, and resilient leadership, the first step is simply a conversation.
